No Agro-Waste

To find innovative solutions for converting over 75 % of agricultural by-products such as straw, manure, vine stalks and wine residues into valuable assets like bio-energy, bio-fertilizers and bio-plastics. These products contribute to saving precious fossil resources, reduce or eliminate waste accumulation of non-biodegradable plastics, and reduce the negative impact of inappropriate agro-waste management

Project start date:

01/09/2016

Project end date:

31/08/2020

Objectives

·       To develop innovative eco-design and assessment tools of circular agro-waste management strategies and address related gap of dialogue, knowledge and data;

·       To Improve agro-waste resources use efficiency by upgrading the most widespread mature technology (i.e. anaerobic digestion, AD) and by eco-designing innovative bio-processes and products;

·       To Ensure and accelerate the development of new business concepts and stakeholders platform for cross-chain valorisation of agro-waste on a territorial and seasonal basis.

Description

NoAW project is made up of five research and innovation workpackages, one dedicated to demonstration and upscaling, one dissemination workpackage and one management workpackage. Among the five research and innovation workpackages, two of them (WP1 and WP5) are developing close interaction with all stakeholders of the agro-waste chain for a cross-sectors and multi-actors approach related to agro-waste chain. Two others workpackages (WP3 and WP4) focus on innovative science and technology for a sustainable agro-waste valorisation. One workpackage (WP2) is devoted to develop approaches and tools able to guide decision on agro-waste management strategies within and beyond the project.
